The IUEC in Puerto Rico

The International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC)’s presence in Puerto Rico has brought stability and improved working conditions to apprentices and mechanics in the elevator industry.

EDUCATION

Through the National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP), workers in Puerto Rico have gained access to the most respected training in the elevator industry. By enrolling in foundational apprenticeship courses, continuing education courses, and certification programs such as OSHA and Scaffold and Access Industry Association (SAIA) Frame & Suspended Scaffolding, IUEC apprentices and mechanics develop skills that make them experts at their craft.

As with IUEC members in the United States, Canada, and Guam, students in Puerto Rico do not pay out of pocket to attend classes. Costs and fees for online and in-person courses, along with all books and lab materials, are covered by their IUEC education benefits.

SAFETY

The safety-focused education provided by NEIEP ensures that all IUEC elevator constructors do quality work with safety in mind. The IUEC also works with signatory companies to ensure all workers have company-specific safety training and access to the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to protect themselves in the hazardous conditions they regularly encounter on the job.

BENEFITS

The IUEC has ensured that all members are covered by a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare and a retirement plan that allows them to prepare for the future. Through an optional Voluntary Income Protection (VIP) Plan, members can access additional supplemental coverage for short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, and AD&D.

The National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP) is responsible for training and educating Local 141’s and other IUEC professionals. NEIEP offers these members the opportunity to learn throughout their career through its comprehensive continuing education (CE) course catalog.
